Dipper sighed as he walked out of the Mystery Shack. For once there was nothing to do. Grunkle Stan was too busy conning people and Mabel was too busy 'be-dazzling' Waddles' new colourful knit sweater that Mabel had just finished making for him. The last Dipper had seen of those two was Waddles blank expression as he watched Mabel humming to herself as she stuck jewels onto the rim of the sweater.
"Almost done Waddles! You'll love it!" Mabel cried out happily from the bedroom.
Dipper closed the door and stuffed his hands into his pockets as he trudged down the road. Then a thought occured to him. Soos. Maybe he could do something with Soos. Blow stuff up, try and uncover more mysteries...Maybe they could blow up more hotdogs in the microwave!
"Sorry Dude," Soos said as he picked up a ladder in one hand and a hammer and nails in the other,"I need to get the S back up. Maybe later okay dude?"
"Yeah, sure thing Soos." Dipper sighed dissapointed.
The S of the word 'shack' from the Mystery Shack sign was always falling down. Dipper carried on walking when he noticed Wendy sitting on a picnic bench. Her legs were crossed over eachother on top of the table, her eyes scanning the words from the magazine she was reading. Her fiery red hair fell down her back with her brown bomber hat on top.
Dipper smiled as he saw her. He could already feel a small flush appearing on his cheeks. Dipper took in a deep breath, swallowed before going over to talk to her.
"Hey Dipper." Wendy said without looking up.
"Oh, er, hey Wendy." Dipper laughed nervously.
"WADDLES!!" Mabel shouted at the top of her lungs as she came running through town. "Waddles!!"
"Whoa, Mabel, slow down!" Dipper said grabbing her arm. "Whats going on?"
"Waddles is gone! I went to grab more jewels and when I came back he was gone!" Mabel said panicing.
"Look, calm down, we'll go find him now, okay?" Dipper said partly concerned for his twin sister's pet pig's safety (where ever he was)and partly happy that there was something to do now.
But Dipper was also a bit annoyed as he had missed another chance to talk to Wendy. But Dipper did not want a repeat of what happened when Waddles was lost the first time. Mabel would not be banging her head against a totem pole today!
Dipper straightned his cap and looked at his sister. Mabel was now sitting next to Wendy on the bench, her knees pulled up tight to her chest with her arms wrapped around them. Mabel rocked herself backwards and forwards, gnawing on her lip.
"I'll help you guys." Wendy spoke up suddenly looking up from her magazine. "Robbie's out of town for the week with his family. Visting his grandma in Texas or something."
A grimace appeared on Dipper's face. God, he hated Robbie. He wasnt good enough for Wendy! Wendy deserved better! Dipper's grimace dissapeared as he jumped out of his skin when Soos spoke up from behind him.
"I'll help too." He said.
"Where did he come from?" Dipper said looking around.
"I'll go South of town with Mabel, okay dude." Soos said.
"Oh, okay...Yeah!" Dipper said. "So Wendy and I will take the forest."
"Sure thing dude." Soos picked up Mabel who was still in her panic mode state and left.
"Lets go then." Wendy said throwing her magazine over her head and landing it in a trash can.
Dipper gaped in awe at her skill that she didnt even notice. They began to walk. Soon they were in the forest searching for the pig.
"Waddles! Waddles! Er...Come here boy?" Dipper said feeling embarrassed.
"Hey, look!" Wendy said grabbing his hand and pulling him down to the ground to examine something.
Dipper smiled to himself as he looked down at their hands, fingers entwined together.
"Pig tracks!" Wendy said proud of herself.
"Yeah, your right!" Dipper said.
They began to follow the trail but soon it stopped. Huge bear tracks had cut Waddles' trail off.
"Whoa…" Wendy said.
"We have to find that pig!" Dipper said.
They carried on for a while, but both stopped as they heard a loud rumble.
"Dipper…What was that…?" Wendy said nervously.
Suddenly the shadow of a bear appears behind them. They turned slowly and screamed as the bear stood on its hind legs. They began to run away from the bear but Wendy tripped and fell.
"Dipper!" Wendy called for him.
Dipper stopped and saw Wendy on the ground. He gasped and ran back to her.
"Wendy! Are you okay?" He asked worriedly.
"I think I twisted my ankle…" Wendy said putting a hand on it, wincing in pain.
"Come on, I'll help you…" Dipper said helping Wendy back on her feet.
Dipper and Wendy managed to find a small cave before they collapsed from exhaustion. Wendy smiled at Dipper.
"Thanks…" She said.
"No problem." Dipper laughed nervously, fixing his cap straight.
"Oink."
"Dipper, did you just oink at me?" Wendy asked arching an eyebrow.
"No!" Dipper answered blushing.
"Oink. Oink."
"WADDLES!" Wendy and Dipper both cried at the same time.
Dipper looked around in the dark until he found something. A lantern. Dipper didn't bother to think of what it was doing here, he lit the lantern and saw the little pink pig. Wendy grabbed the pig and they was about to leave when the bear stood at the entrance.
Wendy scrambled backwards still clutching the pig. She cowered in fear while Waddles fitted in her arms with his blank expression face. Dipper then decided to do something crazy and partly brave at the same time.
He jumped in front of Dipper and began to wave his arms crazily.
"Hey! Go away!" Dipper cried waving the lantern.
"Dipper! What are you doing?" Wendy cried.
"Leave Wendy alone!" Dipper shouted.
Suddenly, the lantern swung out of Dippers hand and landed on the bear, setting it alight.  The fur of the bear melted off revealing a robot. The robot collapsed to the ground and then something climbed out of the back coughing.
"What the…?" Dipper said.
When the dust cleared there stood Old Man McGuket.
"He...he...Hi kids?" He laughed nervously.
"Old man McGuket?" Dipper questioned him. "What are you doing with a bear robot?"
"I was just trying to spread more rumours and mysteries…" He said but Dipper could tell that wasn't the answer.
"Hey," Wendy said pulling Dipper round to face her. "That was really brave and cool what you did then. You totally burnt that bear when you swung the lantern!"
Dipper grinned back at Wendy.
"And…I just wanted to say thanks. For trying to save me."  Wendy finished.
"At least this time I wasn't wearing a lamb suit!" Dipper joked causing Wendy to let out a little giggle.
Then Wendy leant down and left a kiss on Dipper's cheek. "Thanks."
Dipper blushed. Wendy went to go find Mabel and Soos while Dipper helped Old Man McGuket.
"I guess my plan finally worked this time." He spoke up suddenly.
"What?" Dipper questioned.
"Things are closer between you and Wendy."
Then it clicked inside Dipper's head. He smiled at McGuket and nodded at him.
Things were closer between him and Wendy now. Dipper smiled as he saw Wendy with Mabel and Soos. Mabel was squeezing the pig. Wendy looked up and saw Dipper walking towards them. She gave him a thumbs up and then did the "just between us" zip motion over her lips. Dipper returned the gesture.
Maybe Dipper really did have a chance with Wendy…
"I guess something good did happen today then…" Dipper said quietly to himself, smiling.
