Literature Text

We arrived at the Prancing Pony Inn where we were supposed to meet Gandalf but to find he wasn't there yet. We waited in the tavern for Gandalf, a stranger sitting across the room kept watching us. Merry sat down with a large glass.

"What's that?" Pippin asked intrigued.

"It's called a Pint!" Merry answered and took a swig.

"They come in pints? Oh I'm getting one!"

"I need a drink too after today…" I said and got up and followed Pippin.

Some commotion followed and Frodo fell. Then disappeared!

"The ring…" I whispered to Pippin.

The stranger found Frodo after he reappeared and took him away upstairs. We ran up and barged in on him. We found out he was on our side. His name was Strider.

We all slept soundly at night but we awoke when the same ear piercing screeches of the Ring wraith of what we found out they were called.

We left with the Strider and started to travel to Rivendell, the home of the elves. We stopped after a while, getting the equipment out to cook breakfast.

"We don't stop till nightfall." Strider said looking back at us.

"But what about breakfast?" Pippin asked.

"You've already had it!" Strider said.

"Well yes," Pippin answered, "But what about second breakfast?"

Strider stared at Pippin then carried on walking. Frodo and Sam packed away.

"Don't think he knows about second breakfast Pip." Merry said to Pippin.

"What about elevensies? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper? He knows about them, doesn't he?" Pippin said his face shocked.

"I wouldn't count on it…" I said to Pippin.

An apple flew in the air and Merry caught it. Pippin handed me the one he had in his hand. I let out a little giggle when another apple Strider threw hit Pippin on the head. He picked it up and gave me a lopsided smile. For the night we rested at an old stone ruin that was once known as the great watch tower of Amon Sul.

Frodo fell asleep and we lit a fire to cook us some food.  Strider had gone to go find a better path for us to take. I was so hungry that I ignored the horrible feeling of panic and fear in my gut. The taste of crispy bacon and the sizzling sausages was too good to resist. Until Frodo woke up.

"What are you doing?" He said his voice raising.

"Tomatoes, sausages and nice crispy bacon!" Merry said happily and placed another bit of bacon on my plate.

"We saved you some, Mr Frodo." Sam said holding up Frodo's plate.

"Put it out you fools! Put it out!" Frodo shouted and kicked the fire out.

"Oh that's nice…" Pippin complained. "Ash on my tomatoes!"

"And my bacon…" I said dropping my plate.

Screeches of the Ring wraiths filled the air again. Fear engulfed me and I gripped Pippin's hand. We both looked at each other. I let go and looked away blushing.
Frodo looked down and then shouted for us to go. We ran to the top of the tower and stood in a circle, our words drawn. Then out of the darkness of the shadows, they appeared.
"Back you devils!" Sam cried and ran forward. One of the Ring wraiths blocked Sam's attack and shattering Sam's blade. He sent him flying.

Merry, Pippin and I threw ourselves to the ground. Frodo had disappeared. One of the Ring Wraiths suddenly stabbed thin air. I looked to my left as the flicker of a flame caught my eye.

"Strider!" I cried out.

Strider scared off most of the Ring wraiths. Frodo reappeared again and screamed in agony.

"FRODO!" Sam shouted and made his way to Frodo.

As Strider finished off getting rid of the last Ring wraith, he ran over to us. Frodo groaned in pain. Strider picked up the sword.

"He's been stabbed by a Morgul blade…" Strider through the handle of the sword to the ground in disgust as the blade turned into ash."This is beyond my skill. He needs Elvish medicine." Strider picked up Frodo and threw him over his shoulder.

"Stay strong Frodo…" I whispered.

We ran after Strider, Frodo growing weaker.

"Rivendell is six days away!" Sam called out to Strider. "He'll never make it!"

"He can't die…" I murmured.

Merry placed a hand on my shoulder and gave me a worried smile but I could see the worry and panic in his eyes. Strider placed Frodo down after a while. His eyes were red-rimmed, his face beaded with sweat. Frodo let out a groan of pain.

"I-is he going to die?" Pippin asked.

"No. He is passing over to shadow world. Soon he will become one of them." Strider answered.

The thought of Frodo becoming one of those wraiths scared me. Frodo let out a gasp of agony. A distant cry of the wraiths carried through the air.

"They're close…" Merry said nervously.

"Sam! Do you know the Athelas plant?" He asked.

"Athelas?" Sam answered.

"Kingsfoil."

"Kingsfoil? Aye, it's a weed!"

"It may help slow the poison! Hurry!"

I watched as Sam and Strider left to go find the plant. I sat down next to Frodo. Tears of worry and panic pricked my eyes and I blinked them back.

"Come on Frodo…" I begged.

Suddenly a branch snapped and all of our heads snapped up to see a woman appear from the forest.

"Don't be alarmed, small hobbits…" The woman spoke. "I am Luthien. I not here to harm you. I am here to help you…"

"She's an elf…" Merry said astonished.

Luthien smiled at Merry. Just then another elf appeared. She knelt down beside Frodo and spoke in Elvish. We all watched as Strider appeared with Sam. The second Elf and Strider spoke in Elvish as she got Frodo onto her horse. Then she left with Frodo.

"What are you doing? Those wraiths are still out there!" Sam shouted Strider.

"Lady Arwen is taking Frodo to Rivendell. She will send horses for you." Luthien calmed Sam.

We lit a fire as it started to grow dark. I sat there quietly, worry taking over my thoughts.

"Frodo will be alright Daisy…" Merry said sitting down next to me.

"I hope so Merry…" I said then looked at him. "I'm also dreading going home. Rosie's going to kill me..."

Merry let out a small chuckle. Pippin came over and sat with us. It seemed we were there for another hour or so before someone came and took us to Rivendell.  We all prayed that Frodo was alright. He had to be…

He had to be…
